“What is Mingala ?”
The Pali word “Mingala” in the Myanmar language means something which is auspicious, brings luck, blessings and well-being to an individual, a family, community or nation.
The Mingala stories contain deep truths and share lessons of great wisdom. Belief systems and traditions around the world all contain lessons and guidelines which add to the storehouse of knowledge for the benefit of humanity. The “38 Mingalas”, from the Myanmar Buddhist tradition give guidance on how to live a healthy, peaceful and prosperous life for the benefit of all.
For thousands of years, children and adults the world over have loved to tell and listen to classic traditional and popular folk tales. Each country has its own set of traditional stories to offer and the Wisdom Tales from Myanmar Series contain stories that one may not have heard before.
The art of story telling from the 2500 years old traditional Myanmar tales is used to reinforce traditional family values and character building. The original text in the Myanmar language was written by Myanmar author U Min Yu Wai. It is adapted, translated and retold in English for children by Ms. Sheila Desmond. The beautiful illustrations for this book are drawn by veteran artist U San Hlaing. It is edited by the editorial team of AungZay.
We are committed to publish successive children’s story books from the “Wisdom Tales from Myanmar” series totaling thirty eight stories.
