September 2007

Welcome ! Thank you for joining us to launch our first "Burmese Symposium - National Heritage: A Resource for Success".

We hope to have a lively, useful discussion with parents, youths, community leaders, development practitioners and scholars on a very important topic:

"how to build sustainable communities abroad".

We all know that there are many answers to this question in our rich national heritage:  in the cultures, traditions and literature of all our national ethnic races.

So let us come together on this day and try to find answers to the challenges that face our communities on:

  • how to adapt to the new environment without discarding our traditional values,

  • how to find the proper balance between traditional values and modern needs,

  • how to deal with the dangers and pitfalls that are inherent in a modern urban society, such as drugs, dangers on the internet etc.

  • how to have a good healthy dialogue between elders, parents, children and youths

  • above all how to make a "success" of our lives.

"Aungzay" means "success", so let us sit down together and figure out innovative ways and means, to create sustainable communities in  USA and other parts of the world.

Looking forward to see you all.
